For eligible Veterans, Aid & Attendance is a VA pension benefit used to pay for home care services. Note that this benefit is paid directly to Veterans, not billed to the VA or administered through CCN.

The services of a Homemaker or Home Health Aide can help Veterans remain living in their own home and can serve Veterans of any age.

The services of a Homemaker and Home Health Aide can help Veterans remain living in their own home and can serve Veterans of any age. Homemakers and Home Health Aides are not nurses, but they are supervised by a registered nurse who will help assess the Veteran’s daily living needs.

This program is for Veterans who need personal care services and help with activities of daily living. This program is also for Veterans who are isolated, or their caregiver is experiencing burden.

Homemaker and Home Health Aide services can be used in combination with other Home and Community Based Services. Services may vary by location.

The Community Care Network (CCN) is the VA’s contracted network of community-based providers, like BrightCare HomeCare, who are authorized to deliver care to Veterans outside of VA facilities. The CCN is managed by a third-party administrator, Optum. Louisianna falls under District 3 and the third-party administrator, Optum.

To receive care through BrightCare HomeCare under the CCN, Veterans must:
  • Be enrolled in VA health care,
  • Obtain a referral or authorization from their VA primary care provider or care team,
  • Have their services coordinated through Optum.
Authorized services may include:
  • Homemaker/Home Health Aide (H/HHA) support, such as help with bathing, dressing, and mobility,
  • Respite care to give family caregivers a break,
  • Other supportive services based on VA’s evaluation and authorization.
