Some birthdays deserve a little extra celebration. And when you turn 100 years old, we think that calls for balloons, birthday wishes, a brand-new LSU hat, and plenty of people gathered around to celebrate!
The BrightCare HomeCare Baton Rouge team recently had the incredible privilege of celebrating a very special milestone with one of our clients, Mr. Warren, who turned 100 years old.
A century of life is an extraordinary accomplishment all on its own. But his story gives us even more reason to celebrate.
A proud World War II Veteran, husband, father, and LSU fan, Warren is part of a generation whose experiences and service helped shape our country. Today, we are fortunate not only to know him, but also to be part of this chapter of his remarkable story.
Celebrating a Century of Memories
One hundred years.
It’s difficult to capture just how much life can fit inside those words.
Over the course of a century, Warren has witnessed generations of change, lived through defining moments in American history, built a family, formed lasting relationships, and collected a lifetime of memories along the way.
Yet some of the things that bring him happiness today are wonderfully simple.
He enjoys eating fruit, going out to eat, spending time with friends and family, and sharing time with his care team. And if you couldn’t tell from his birthday present, he’s also an LSU fan!
So when his 100th birthday arrived, we knew a little purple and gold needed to be part of the celebration.
Our team surprised him with a new LSU hat, along with balloons, gifts, and plenty of birthday cheer. Seeing him surrounded by people who care about him made an already extraordinary milestone even more special.
A Life of Service: His World War II Story
Behind the person we have the privilege of caring for today is an incredible piece of American history.
Years before this milestone birthday, Warren sat down with The National WWII Museum to preserve his memories as part of its oral history collection. Through that interview, we have the opportunity to hear his story in his own words.
Born in August 1926 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, he grew up on a farm during the Great Depression. He was one of eight children who lived to adulthood and attended a one-room school.
As a young man, Warren remembered hearing the news of the attack on Pearl Harbor over the radio and realizing that the United States was at war.
His own chapter in that history would soon follow.
He joined the United States Navy, where he trained in engineering and welding. He later served aboard the USS Barnstable (APA-93) and worked as an engineer on Higgins boats in the Pacific.
His wartime experiences took him to places including New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan, giving him a firsthand perspective on events most of us have encountered only through history books, photographs, and documentaries.
Those memories offer something especially valuable: the voice and perspective of someone who was there.
From War to a Life in Louisiana
Coming home opened the door to an entirely new chapter.
After his military service, Warren eventually met the woman who would become his wife in Covington, Louisiana. Together, they built a life in New Orleans, raised two daughters, and shared an incredible 65 years of marriage.
It’s one of the things that makes celebrating this 100th birthday so moving.
Behind those three digits is not simply longevity.
There is a childhood on an Oklahoma farm. A one-room schoolhouse. The Great Depression. World War II. Naval service in the Pacific. Coming home. Falling in love. Marriage. Raising a family. Friendships. Favorite meals. LSU games. And thousands upon thousands of ordinary days that, together, became an extraordinary life.
His Story, In His Own Words
We are especially grateful that part of Warren’s history has been preserved by The National WWII Museum.
His oral history gives future generations the opportunity to hear about his childhood, military service, wartime experiences, and life after World War II directly from the man who lived them.
As he celebrates a full century of life, having those memories preserved feels even more significant.
We invite you to learn more about this remarkable chapter of his life and hear his story in his own words through The National WWII Museum’s Digital Collections.

The Privilege of Being Part of His Journey
At BrightCare HomeCare Baton Rouge, we believe caring for someone begins with seeing the whole person.
Every older adult has a lifetime behind the moment in which we meet them. There are stories, relationships, traditions, accomplishments, preferences, challenges, and memories that have shaped who they are.
In this case, we’re talking about 100 years’ worth.
What an extraordinary reminder of the privilege that comes with caring for older adults.
Home care is certainly about providing assistance when it is needed, but it can also be found in the smaller moments.
It’s conversation and companionship. It’s knowing someone’s favorite foods. It’s supporting the routines that make each day familiar. It’s going out for a meal. It’s sharing a laugh. It’s helping someone remain connected to friends and family.
And sometimes, it’s showing up with balloons and making sure a proud LSU fan has the right hat for his 100th birthday.
Those moments matter.
For our caregivers and the entire BrightCare HomeCare Baton Rouge team, being welcomed into Warren’s life is a privilege we don’t take lightly.
Happy 100th Birthday!
